Resilience
I am resilient. The opposing player fiddled with the ball at his feet. He's going to shoot, I thought. I jumped and hurled my leg out to block his shot. POP! Oh no, I dreaded.
Broken hip. No walking for 2-3 weeks- I’m out of soccer. My club soccer career has fallen down the drain.
I was frustrated and angry.
“Two soccer injuries in 2 years? That’s the end of that.” my Mom commented.
This can’t be the end of soccer. Not like this. I won’t allow it.
I was pissed: how could this happen to me? Yet, despite my rage, I found myself at ease. I took what I had learned from my first soccer injury: there is more that life has to offer than just soccer.
Where will I go to college? Where will I go? What will I see? What will I do? Who will I meet?
The future holds so much in store.
Even today, I am excited for this summer, where I yearn for liberation from the confines of school. Cloudless blue skies, warm sand, and blooming flowers- oh, what great times I will have!
Soccer isn’t over forever, not yet at least. High school soccer in the fall will come. I look forward to smelling freshly cut grass and hearing the sound of a ball hit the back of the net. I am resilient.
