It's been decades since Austin has seen large amounts of snow. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I checked my phone and saw that Austin was expecting a snowstorm. The day the storm hit I was at school and students were leaving with their parents left-and-right to escape the freezing roads. My mom picked me and my brother up later in the day and as strange as it sounds, we were excited to see the snow unaware of the struggles that were to come. A few days later we got an email saying school would be canceled the following week due to the magnitude of the storm. We were ecstatic and played in the snow for hours the first couple of days. About half way through the week is when we started experiencing power outages and homes without water. My family luckily had power throughout the entire week but we did not have running water in our home which meant we had to ask friends for showers and go to local gyms to keep clean. Although these times were difficult, we made the most out of the situation by playing in the snow and playing board games to fill the time. Throughout this week, I learned to never take for granted what I have because many people aren't as fortunate as I am to have a roof over my head and food on the table.
