Legacy
I never really paid any attention to video games until that moment. I mean I saw the consoles and games being played but I never really got into it until I realized what video games are and what they symbolize and what they mean to me. They made me see the bigger picture and changed my perspective on life. I imagined all the possibilities and what I could do with this magnificent new purpose in my life…..and so I picked up a controller…..turned on a game….and began creating my legacy.
I stumbled from my bed into the living room. It was about midday and I’d just been awakened by a mysterious sound. I’d also been thinking about I dream I’d had the night before. I was in a different reality….in a different world. I could do or be anything I’d ever thought of. My curiosity was heightened when I heard this sound so I went to investigate. When I entered the living room, the most amazing sight I’d ever seen caught my eye. My dad was sitting on the couch playing a game, controller in his hand, creating a masterpiece on the TV and I was in utter amazement. I was just standing there unable to move my body and unable to take my eyes away from the screen. I’d never been more in awe then in that moment.
After that, I decided to start playing video games because I knew what I wanted to do in my life. The 1st game I ever played was, ironically, the game I saw my dad playing that morning. It’s name was Pokemon and I played most of that game series on the Gameboy and some more on the Nintendo 64. I had so many fun times with this game series. I walked around catching monsters with powers and used those monsters to battle other monsters. I still play it today on occasion.
Now I’m living the life, playing every game from Megaman to Kingdom Hearts, and I couldn’t be happier. What made me pursue my dreams of gaming was the fact that I could create whatever I wanted….I could make my own worlds. I could do all of this and become everything I wanted to be through video games. I realized this when I saw my dad that one morning. I could become the person I could never be and nobody would ever look down on me like I was nothing anymore. I would finally be accepted and not ignored. I could erase these feelings of depression and loneliness and anger. I know what I want to be now. My face is now glued to the TV screen, my controller is in my hand, my mind is focused on what I want and what I need. I’m just beginning to do what I believe I can do and that goal is to make myself a legend. I am a gamer and that’s how my legacy begun and I will be remembered as the greatest ever.
