   Normal daytime highs rise ten degrees this month, from 62E on the 1st to 67E on the 15th to 72E on the 31st. Normal overnight lows also add ten notches this month, from 45E on the 1st to 50E on the 15th to 55E on the 31st. The record high for this month is 97E, set on May 26, 1880. The record low is 31E, set on May 3, 1880.

There have been no days below 32E; the coldest day in May was in 1873 on the 3rd when the temperature got no higher than 40E. Boston averages no days above 90E this month, but there were three in May, 1959.

Normal rainfall for the month is 3.52 inches. The least was .32 in 1903 and the most was 13.38 in 1954. The most rain to fall in 24 hours was 5.74 on May 15-16, 1954. We have seen up to a half inch of snow in May.

Normally we see 59% of the possible sunshine in May, with an average of 6.5 clear days and 14.5 cloudy ones. The rest are somewhere in between. We average two days with thunderstorms, but there were eight such days back in 1927. In May the wind has not gone over the speed limit with the peak speed in Boston 55 mph on May 1, 1935. n
