Daniel Defoe was thought to have been born in St. Giles Cripplegate, London. He was born Daniel Foe, but later in his life he added the prefix De to his name. He was either born in 1659 or 1661, although it is uncertain what exact date. In 1966, his neighborhood was destroyed by the Great Fire of London. Only 3 houses including his survived the fire. At the age of 13 Defoe’s mother died. In 1684 Daniel was married to Mary Tuffley and was paid 3,700 pounds. They had eight children. Two of which died. Not much is known about his children or wife, but when he married, he was in great debt. He was a very famous writer and wrote very many novels and various works, but he is most well known for his book Robinson Crusoe which he wrote in 1719. He died on April 26, 1731. He was buried in Bunhill Fields, London.
