Excerpt from Calvin and Hobbes:
Calvin asks Mom: "Why are you crying?"
Mom: "I'm cutting an onion."
Calvin: "Life must be hard when you start anthropomorphizing your vegetables."

Everyone is born with talents.
Some you just know you have from the start
And others you might discover and cultivate some years down the road…
But you always have them.

Some talents are obvious to onlookers
- wizzy footwork on the soccer field, a spotless GPA, a breathtaking affinity for singing, an eye for fashion -
And unfairly enough, there are people who hold a variety of these sort.
These are the “talented” ones - presented as being “the best” because of the talents that they can so easily show to the world’s audience
Fawned over, prized, special.

But what about all those other talents out there?
Overlooked, forgotten, undervalued because you can’t use them to win the Olympics
Or get an Oscar or graduate as valedictorian
What about all the champion
Babysitters
Lizard whisperers
Ghost-story-tellers
Hair-braiders
Tomato farmers
Crossword puzzlers
Casserole chefs
Telephone number memorizers
And people who are really really really good at blending in:
Invisible to the cameras
The best at what they do, but not seen as “talented”

Someday they will all realize how talented they are - not because anybody told them so -
And will proceed to keep the world an interesting place.

I have always done well in school and been proud of it. My brother never did as well academically, but has always been amazing at making friends and having fun. I often think that he is much more talented than me and should be told so.
