My Name Was to Blame
The writing titled “My Name Was to Blame,” written by Izabella J., talks about being an immigrant and learning new ways while being put down by peers and teachers. Her writing left me feeling determined. I cannot relate to this poem, but it leaves a lasting feeling to me. It is written well. I like how it has a rhyming touch to the poem. I also how towards the end of the poem it repeats, "I KEPT PROVING HER WRONG." When that those lines are repeated and capitalized, it gives it more of a bold statement, which is what I think the writer was attempting to achieve. I also like how alliteration is used: "This is to the ESL teacher that always made me feel declined, denied, and defined." It gives an emphasis on those three words and how it made the writer feel. I think the statement is strong, and the writer showed that well.
