Feedback on "Diary of a Synesthete"
A college essay titled "The Diary of a Synesthete" was published in the April issue of Teen Ink. This piece encompassed the life of a young teenager suffering from synesthes?ia, a psychological disorder that causes a sense to stimulate another. For example, the narrator in this story always relates specific numbers or letters to colors. This unique quality actually serves to help her, and she is now fluent in five languages.
This article beautifully displays the ability of one to turn something as inconvenient as a disorder and turn it into a helping hand. Beautifully phrased sentences such as "...I'd learn the chocolate sounds of French , and on jasmine yellow Tuesday and shamrock green Thursday, I'd transition into the vanilla cadence of English" really helped readers understand how the author of this article took advantage of being a synthesthete. Overall, this article was extremely insightful and well-written.
