Response to "reborn" by Natalie Slopern
“I am one of the girls who walks alone,” I breathe
Through puffs of breath in winter air
Frozen by death in space and time
A battleground of faint whispers
And pure nothingness
Collapsing into ruins of silence
With greedy men not even reaching their hands
To stop the flow of my lifeless hair.
Not even trying to fling
The bombs from the ruins of my own castle.
If “us girls” was a group,
Then I am the castaway,
Not even strong enough
To feed myself poison,
Externalize my pain
Scars don't have to be on skin
For the wounds to be real,
Sometimes the scream is in vain
And the CD is blank
The collateral, scarred skins
Are scratched and battered souls
You have your pain
And I have mine
But don't say that we’re “we”
When some of us are alone,
Don't give me new life
When my first was a failure.
