The Fruits of Loving Your Roots
I found Sarah Saeed's article "The Fruits of Loving Your Roots," extremely moving. When she was young, her mom made her act christian in public to fit in with everyone. They didn't want to be accused of being a terrorist beccause of their religion. She was uncomfortable because she was hiding the real her. People would make jokes of her religion and she wouldn't say anything because she's supposed to hide that side of her. "I watched from the sidelines as people around me cracked Isalmaphobic jokes." Eventually she gained the courage to wear an American flag scarf in public. Her mom wasn't a fan of Sarah's desicion. When she was in public, she had all eyes on her. (Some were nice, others not so nice). A lady walked up to her and complemented her scarf. That made Sarah feel confident to show the real her. No one should have to hide the real them because they're scared to be judged.
