Define community service! To me community service is doing something that makes you feel good about yourself and helping others at the same time without satisfaction through pay.

In my hometown of Bristol, Connecticut there are many citizens who are unable to feed themselves or their families. There are a few active soup kitchens due to strong community involvement. I lend my time almost monthly and prepare a dinner for more than 100 people at the Zion Lutheran soup kitchen. Every year my family and friends are also active in a drive for food, part of a nationwide drive called Scouting for Food. We collect, house to house, bags of canned and dried foods which are then distributed to the local post of the National Guard. The food is then brought to local and out-of-town soup kitchens.

I feel much satisfaction from the many people I have met along the way. I also believe that if more people would care just a little, then they, indirectly, would be able to make serious changes in the lives of others and most of all, their own. fl
