She was motionless; a dark, ominous presence stood before her and she didn’t have much time left. She stood in her dark bedroom, afraid for her life. Two hours had passed since she saw it. She glanced at the clock and it read 1:30 AM. Five hours from now, the presence would disperse and she would have not accomplished her goal. As she stood there, the presence stayed behind. She took one step forward and it did the same. Fearful, she ran to the bathroom, hit the lights, and opened the door, just a smidge to find the creature. It was behind the door, waiting for her. She paced around the bathroom, looking for an object, anything that could defend herself. She scrutinized the cabinet on top of the sink to the floors of the bathroom, but to no avail.
Instead, she took out powder, a brush, and mascara in the drawers. She clicked off the powder set and using a brush, she went straight for the white powder. With her filthy, white stained brush, she dipped it onto the white square powder and splattered it all over her face down to her neck. She stared into the mirror and looked as white as the cotton of a Q-Tip. With the mascara, she combed her eyelashes. She was ready for the creature.
She checked her phone, it was 2:30 AM; five messages flashed out. He finally responded, she thought, maybe he’ll finally come. She read the last message and it said, I’m on my way. A knock pounded on the first floor, she jumped, forgetting her worries and rushed down the stairs to open the door. A blank expression went across her face. It turned to fear as she realized what she had done. She slammed the door and scurried to the kitchen, turning on the lights. She knew it was afraid of light or anything bright.
The digital clock on the refrigerator read 4:00; she was running out of time. She needed proof and without it, he wouldn’t believe her. Tapping on her phone, she wondered what to do and looked down; she saw her plan. She had to be quick or she would scare herself. She turned off the lights and arched her neck.
“Come on out, I’m here.” she jumped with one foot at a time and her knees jutting out.
“I’m coming for you.”
Soon she saw the ominous presence surfacing. She positioned her phone, prepared for it. She pressed a button and a click was heard. Immediately, she turned on the lights and looked at the picture, she got her proof. A knock was heard and she knew it was him this time. She opened the door and showed her phone to him.
“Brian, here is proof of this creature I’ve been telling you about.”
She saw from his eyes a realization. He looked at her from head to toe and then at her phone. A peculiar expression appeared. He stepped back, went to his car and left without a word.

I wrote this piece for my creative writing class. The teacher wanted us to write a story about ambiguity and so I did. I hope that when people read it they get their own interpretations because there are many ways it can be translated.
