OR
What saves a man is to take a step. Then another step. It is always the same step, but you have to take it. ~Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Wind, Sand and Stars, 1939, translated from French by Lewis Galantière

What if everything you thought you knew, was a lie? What if everyone you knew, was a lie? What if everything you were taught, was a lie? Well, welcome to my world. I guess I should start at the beginning, we it all started. No. Not my birth you dunderhead! Just….uggh just read on…

It all started during my freshman year of High School…

As I walked down the sidewalk from my first day of hell I kept looking back behind me, up into the trees. It seemed everywhere I went, a black crow would follow, like an omen on my soul, but what I couldn’t grasp, was why? Once I reached my long dirt driveway I slung my backpack roughly over my shoulder and bolted down the drive, as fast as I could go, as fast as my legs could carry me. As fast as I was, the crow had no problem keeping up with me. I finally reached the door after what seemed like an eternity of running and quickly closed it behind me, my bag falling to the floor with a THUD, my back against the door I slid down, sitting on the floor and buried my face in my knees.

RING, RING I slowly picked up my head and pulled my phone from my pocket. “Hello?” I answered. “Annabelle… meet me in the forest behind your home, everything you know will now fall apart…” CLICK The dial tone had me shocked and confused, Who was that? What we they talking about? I shook my head and pulled myself from the floor, trudging up the stairs to my room, as I threw my bag to my bed I realized no one was home. I stuck my head out my door and looked down the hall towards Ryan’s room, his door was wide open, but he was nowhere to be found. “Mom? Dad? Ryan?” I sighed and closed my door behind me, and made my way down to the kitchen, Where was everyone? “Mom?” I stopped walking and listened hard, nothing, complete silence. Odd.

RING, RING “Hello?” “I’m waiting in the woods Annabelle…” CLICK I looked out the kitchen window and looked towards the woods, it was raining… and I could barely make out a figure in the distance. I groaned and grabbed a coat from the coat rack, opening the back door I made my way towards the woods, rain pouring down on top of my head. The figure didn’t move, just watched me as I approached. “Annabelle… welcome, my name is Mark Pearson, and I am here to shed some light on your life, follow me.” He gestured for me to follow him and the rain let up, I pulled my hood off and
slowly followed behind.

“So, Mark please tell me what this is all about, I don’t understand anything you’re talking about…” He stopped and looked at me, his glasses shining in the dim sunlight. “You do not know?” He asked, shocked. “Umm, no not at all, I wish I did, but I don’t.” He sat down on a dry stump and patted the spot next to him, and took his offer and sat next to him. “Let me start from the beginning… --“

It all started in 1864, there was a council of elders that declared that your generation of children were to be saviors, but now it has come down that the Saviors are not needed… The elders created a life for the Saviors, but your life Annabelle, is a lie… Your parents, are not your parents, you brother, is not your brother, everything and everyone you know, is not yours, but someone else’s. 5 Saviors, created for really only one perpouse, but now What shall we do with them? Is the question everyone involved is now asking themselves.

I looked at him, speechless. “S-So, your saying I’m not who I think I am…?” I looked at him, my smoky grey eyes clouded and confused, miss guided, like a lost puppy. “I can see the confusion in your face Annabelle, it’s not like we’re going to kill you.” He chuckled, it was dark and sadistic, but it drew me closer, like a cobra to it’s prey. He stood once more and continued walking.” Where are we going Mark? Where are you taking me?” He looked back for a quick second and kept walking, I followed him, I had no other choice but to follow. Everything he had told me was running through my head, fake, lies, Saviors, council of Elders… I just couldn’t understand it, none of it made any sense to me.
