Winged
"I love you Keith," I said the words, before diving down to save him. He was falling fast and hard, he'd die if I didn't get to him fast enough.
Chapter 1: Chapter One It was the day. I ended up splayed on his open windowsill, with my wings protruding proudly from under the shade of his oak tree. He stirred briefly. But when he saw me he fell on to the floor.
“Nice briefs,” I said sending his hand running wildly through his hair.
“Um, who are you?” He asked, staring at my wings.
“Your guardian angel, duh.” I said.
“But you were Alice Karen’s best friend, and you are rebellious and people say you went on a family trip. Plus there are no such things as angels.” Keith said, “Period.”
“Well, how do you explain my wings? And my total, utter gorgeousness? And not to add the fact that I’m glowing.” I said and smirked at the way he looked.
“Y-your an angel?” he managed.
Full fledged.
Your in my head!
Duh.
Okay….
Breathe Keith, breathe.
Thanks.
School was, as always, a nightmare. Most people gave me strange stares and sympathetic glances. But I fought them off with holding my chin high and walking down the hallway in a sensible fashion.
“Miss me?” I asked Keith as I went and sat down in the desk beside him.
“Well, I might have if you hadn’t been babbling on in my head the whole time. I think I’m going insane.” Keith answered.
I do not babble!
Sure you don’t.
Truthfully?
Yes, you do babble. It’s like constant.
No, I do not babble.
Stop being in denial.
I am not in denial. You are lying.
I’m just stating true fact.
“Mr. Carther, would you please tell me your answer to the question?” Mr. Hankins asked.
Say Juliet and Romeo is a most inspiring story.
What?
Just say it.
“Romeo and Juliet is a most inspiring story.” Keith replied not missing a beat.
“Good answer,” Mr. Hankins said and moved on.
How did y-
Not now. I’m trying to concentrate.
And I was. My senses ranged out around me. If Dustin was in town, he wasn’t at the school. I tried to concentrate on mostly paranormal beings. Two to three vampires, six to seven werewolves, and only about three witches. And only two angels. Both guardian.
You okay?
Now I am.
Why?
I’ll tell you later….how about I come over for dinner?
Uh...okay?
Good, tell your parents some sort of story about me, because I’ll be around you...a lot.
Really…..why?
Because I have to protect you.
Oh yeah, the Guardian Angel thing.
We just stared at each other until the bell rang. I got up swiftly and gracefully exited the room. I waited in the hall. We walked silently to our next class.
Lunch.
Are you ready?
Sure. I mean it’s not like I’m just coming back after being gone for six months.
I-I’m….sorry?
Don’t be, your not a sadistic, evil, fallen angel who is still in love with me.
Oh, yeah. That one guy, Aaron, right?
Yeah.
Is he…..really still…..in love with you?
Yes. Why?
I don’t know, I was just wondering.
You should never be on the stand, because your a horrible liar, Keith.
I just wanted to know. Sheesh.
Yeah, ‘just wanted to know’. I rolled my eyes.
I did.
Your cute when you lie, Keith.
Really?
Yeah.
“Where are we going to sit?” he asked politely.
“Um, alone? Over there, maybe?” I answered.
Okay.
We walked to an empty table and sat down.
“So….” He said looking uncomfortable.
You look a little pale Keith.
Well, you would be, too, if you suddenly found out that Angels exist.
Ha ha. That is what you are freaking out about? I mean, first you have this gorgeous girl following you around, a maniac probably stalking you, and all you can about is the fact that Angels exist.
Yep.
Great, Keith, just great.
He laughed out loud. I smiled. His laugh was sweet, the type of laugh that would send a mortal’s heart hammering. And their cheeks blushing. I liked his laugh. It was one of those sounds that when you hear it, you instantly fall in love. I stared at him for a moment, uncomprehendingly how a mortal could be so tempting, so lucious. His laugh was something I’d never forget, never in a million years. I laughed, too, at the sheer impossibility of being in love with a mortal, which I seemingly was falling into. A girl with long brown braids came over and smiled warmly. I knew her name. Anna. She was the boyfriend of a fellow angel. Bruce. Her eyes, though, were filled with sadness. Then I remembered how Anna’s cover was to be dating a mortal. And Keith was that mortal. The pang in my chest was not from jealousy, but from how much it will hurt him when he finds out the truth.
Then I remembered that they broke up. My eyes swept between them, wondering, idly, why she was over there. He stiffened, slightly. I smiled and gently took his hand. I squeezed once, and then let go.
