EC+AM=4ever Chapter 27 (Part 1)

Cole's Car
Cole and I cruised down the highway, the open windows letting in a cool breeze.
"So, did you get a chance to talk to Kristy yet?" I asked him.
"No, she never came home last night." he replied. "Sorry,"
"No, that's ok. It's not your fault. I just really want to talk to her about what she did. I still can't believe that she lied to my face like that. And the worst part is that she wanted to hurt me. She wanted me to feel like Ash really didn't love me anymore."
"Well maybe she was just jealous. Maybe she was desperate for you to dump Ash so that you and her could be friends again." he suggested.
"But we are friends! Well we were, until she did this." I told him.
"Yeah, but you weren't exactly acting like it. Kristy told me that you two have never gotten into a real fight. Until Ash came along." I knew he was just trying to protect his cousin, but I also knew that he was trying to get me to dump Ash for him.
"Yeah, that parts true, but Kristy needs to accept the fact that I have other friends besides just her. If she had a boyfriend, I wouldn't get mad at her for it." I defended myself.
"But the point is that Kristy feels left out. And you know this. She's gotten in a fight with you about twice, yet you don't seem to care."
"Of course I care!" I cried.
"Well you sure have a funny way of showing it then, because even I notice how obsessed you are with Ash. And I think that now, Kristy's doing whatever she can to win you back. She feels like she's competing with Ash, all for you."
"And how exactly do you know all of this?" I asked.
He sighed, "Because Kristy's told me," I looked away from him, realizing that he was right. I was treating Kristy like crap.
"Does Kristy know that you and I are going out today?" I asked him softly.
"I sent her a text this morning, but she still hasn't texted me back. I'm guessing she slept over at either Julianne or Kelly's house." he said.
"So she's really friends with them?" I wasn't so sure I wanted him to answer me.
"Yes." he stated sympathetically. I felt horrible. I was officially the worst friend of all time. Kristy was hanging out with Julianne Wiggins and Kelly Richardson all because I was rude enough to shut her out of my life for Ash.
"I'm an extremely terrible person." I mumbled in shame.
"No you're not." I knew he was just saying that to be nice. "You're only slightly terrible." he added jokingly.
I laughed and punched his shoulder lightly. "Shut up,"
He laughed too, and we stopped the car. There was a huge traffic jam, caused by a car accident up ahead. "Crap," he muttered.
The sight of the car accident made my heart speed up. And the image of Ash's mom's injured body, lying lifelessly in her totaled car. I blinked a couple of times to clear the picture out of my head, but it stayed put. The sound of my shrill cries for help rang in my ears. I could hear myself calling to her, "Ms. Mongolia! Please wake up! Please don't be dead!"
I brought my hands up over my ears, but the sound wouldn't go away. I shuddered, my hands beginning to quake, my breathing growing heavy.
"Are you ok?" Cole asked me in concern, but I didn't hear a word he said. I just watched his lips move, his figure blurry to me.
"Make it stop!" I shouted, tears coming to my eyes. I was now in hysterics, screaming and shaking furiously.
Cole reached over and grabbed my wrists, bringing them away from my ears and down to my sides. "Evalynne, it's ok." he said soothingly. He wrapped his arms around me and I cried into his broad chest.
