He drives with a silly smile on his face he can’t seem to wipe off
She sits in the passenger seat just a happy as him
They sneak looks at each other
And giggle childishly
He once again glances at her but this time into her eyes
She is also lost in his
Both in a daze they forget their surroundings while they kiss
Due to their desire for each other they didn't seem to notice they were driving on the wrong side of the road
Only distracted by honking by drivers on the road
She looks at the road and screams
He slams on the brakes
Throwing her through the front window
He looks in horror as his love's bloody body jerks violently on the pavement
Her convulsions continue until ambulance arrives
He arrives to the hospital to pay her a visit
The nurse assures him her injuries aren't life threatening
But she may not be the same after the accident
He didn't understand what she meant by this as he continued into her hospital room
He went to her bedside and held her hand
She was heavily bandaged due to the swelling in her head
But he could still see the eyes he fell in love with
She looked up in to his eyes and jumped in fear
She screamed for help as he tried to calm her down
She demanded he leave the room
He did
He sat in the waiting room wondering what was happening to his wife
The doctor approached him with the diagnoses
She experienced great brain damage in the accident
She didn't remember who he was
He was heartbroken
He went home and cried
For hours
And hours
Then suddenly an impetus force overcame his body
He realized he had to win his love back
The next morning he arrived to her room with flowers
The swelling in her head had went down
So he could see her beautiful face
She hesitantly accepted the flowers as she questioned who he was
He explained to her he was her husband of 2 years
How they met at Texas Tech University
And how they got married on graduation day
None of this rang a bell in her mind she remained oblivious
He realized reminding her who he was wasn't going to make her remember him
So he understood what he had to do
Make her fall in love with him again
He visited her everyday while she was in rehab
He’d tell her jokes he told her in the past that often made her laugh
He’d recite poetry he had once written her
He gave her jewelry he gave her for past occasions
She was smitten by his efforts
Like he had hoped she was once again falling for him
After 2 months in rehab
She was OK to leave the hospital
And once again madly in love with him
They renewed their wedding vows
And bought a home in Houston
They would spend hours staring into each other’s eyes like they did before the accident
He was overjoyed that he had won her love back
It was like she was never gone
One night they decided to go on a midnight drive as they did so many times before
They drove through the cool night as she gazed into his eyes; he was also lost in her eyes as he became unaware of the road ahead of him.
He kissed her cheek as she let out a scream.
He slammed on the breaks as they swerved into a street light pole.
She struck her head with tremendous on the dash board leaving her motionless.
Shaken up but not severely injured he looks on fearfully as the ambulance arrive
This was scene was becoming all too familiar.
He arrives to the emergency room
Doctors approached him with grim news
She had a week to live
Tears fell down his face as he heard the prognosis
He brushed his hand through her hair as he promised her everything would be alright
Although he wasn't completely sure himself
Day seven rolled around and his wife was nearly gone
She could no longer speak
But their eye contact kept spoke louder than any words
It was all they needed
All they ever needed
He held her hand as his skin grew cold
Tears rolled down his cheeks as he realized he had lost her
Again
He kissed her forehead, brushed his hands over her eyelids, closing them, as he fell to the floor in agony
He fought so hard to get her back
Just to lose her again
