An Eerie Warning
BEFORE THE STORY STARTS, IN THE REAL WORLD TAKE TORNADOES SERIOUSLY, AND ALWAYS BE AWARE OF SEVERE WEATHER…
It was a hot and sunny day in Oklahoma City. Storms have been spawning all over central United States. In a small neighborhood, a family known as the Hilton family, will be a victim of the most violent storm on earth; but the Hilton family was well prepared for whatever came their way. From lightning, to hail, tornadoes, and more. Tommy was just 6 years old, and was unaware of what was coming his way. His mom was talking on the phone, and his dad was checking the weather. But as always, in spring, the weather was very wild and unpredictable. Over the past couple of weeks, a few showers and storms have been experienced in Oklahoma City, nothing serious. Some lightning bolts, maybe pea sized hail, but nothing worse than that. But the weather has been unusually calm and warm. Later, the weather will be a destructive storm of hell… Tommy was just sitting around, doing his thing, watching Spongebob. Everything was pretty fine; a normal day. Just then, his mom called saying that his friend, scratch that, best friend, David, was wondering if Tommy could come over to his house.
Since Tommy is 6 years old he gets excited easily, and when those words struck his eardrums, he was in the room, faster than you could read this entire story. Soon they were driving over to David’s house. When Tommy got over to David’s house, David was informing Tommy that he knew where a creek was.
They were racing over to the creek, but there was a problem. Tommy was excited on how they could cool off without a pool. Tommy had his hopes up too high. The weather had been so sunny, dry, and hot, that there was no water in the creek. “Well this stinks, what are we supposed to do now?” said David. Tommy and David thought and thought, but it was way too hot to be outside thinking...At least for them.
“Man, it’s so hot out here!” exclaimed David.
“Yeah... Wow, look at those weird looking clouds!” said Tommy. Strangely, the clouds were building up, and getting darker. “I hope it doesn’t rain,” said Tommy.
“Yeah, that would stink even more,” included David. Tommy couldn’t stop the rain, but he could predict it. Sadly, it was supposed to rain all day and all weekend.
Tommy’s mom shouted ,“Tommy, time to go home! It’s supposed to rain!”
“Of course,” both Tommy and David said. When Tommy and his mom were driving home, the clouds darkened quickly. Tommy’s mom turned on the radio, and tuned into the weather station. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Oklahoma City.
“Let’s hope we can survive getting out of the car.”, said Tommy’s mom. When they both got out of the car, the wind started gusting at at least 45 miles per hour. Tommy and his mom could barely walk, until they reached their doorsteps. When they got inside, Tommy’s dad was watching the weather.
“It’s going to get bad, really bad,” he said. At first nothing really was going on. Besides the fact of that the bleak looking sky and the gusting wind.
Tommy, was doing his thing, watching SpongeBob, and not doing much else. All of the sudden you could hear distant rumbles of thunder. It was supposed to do more than just rain…It stormed. Tommy was continuing to watch SpongeBob, until his dad called for him saying “You better come down here! The weather’s getting worse!” What he just said was true.
The wind was blowing harder, the thunder was getting louder, and there was a torrential downpour. The skies then got tremendously dark. The only thing that was lighting up the skies were the flashes of lightning. “I’ve never seen anything this severe,” said Tommy’s dad.
Because it’s right in the heart of tornado alley, it is common in Oklahoma City. And nobody knew what was about to come way… Because the gates of hell would break loose, and destruction will be everywhere. But before any of that stuff even has a chance to happen, the signs are clear. Tommy’s mom has been quite anxious at the weather. Although at this moment who wouldn’t? The weather has another force in store: hail. Although the hail is small at first, about pea sized. But as the storm gets bigger, and the hail size goes from pea to golf ball, and then to baseball. All of the car’s windshields, and windows have been smashed in, roofs of houses have been moderately, to severely damaged, and crops have been destroyed. Tommy’s roof had been so badly damaged, that that they had to move to the basement. While the Hilton family was preparing themselves for the worst, the power went off. This sent an icy chill down everyone’s spine, paralyzing each person with fear. Worst of all the Hilton family didn’t have a power generator. Tommy was so scared and messed up with the fear of whatever was about to happen, that he was at total meltdown mode. Screaming, crying, saying on how he doesn’t want to die, and so on and so forth. But the weather wasn’t done yet, because the power lines were down, trees were snapped in half, and drivers were forced off the roads. Plus everybody in the neighborhood had absolutely no power at all. Well, except the people with power generators. Now, the only thing the Hilton family could do is turn on the battery powered weather radio, and listen what’s going on with the weather. Next thing you know, there’s a tornado watch for Oklahoma City. But until it passes at 8:15 daylight time, you better get ready for hell to come your way. “So that’s what’s coming our way!” said Tommy’s dad. Right as he said that the NWS (National Weather Service) just issued a tornado warning. And what could be worse? It would reach Oklahoma City in 15 minutes! Now Tommy was really freaking out. Tommy’s mom and dad tried to calm him down but it was no use. You couldn’t stop the twister from forming, and heading to Oklahoma City. You can only prepare yourself for the worst. The weather man must’ve been psychic or something, because 15 minutes later the tornado did form and touchdown. The tornado was very small at first and formed in a field. But as the tornado moved, it builds itself up and starts roaring its way to a tree biom. Trees get ripped up from their roots, and the next thing the tornado does is hit a barn. The wood becomes splinter projectiles, and crops were utterly obliterated. The tornado roars its way out of the country and into the urban. When the tornado was in the outskirts of Oklahoma City, shops and restaurants were no match for the tornado’s shear power. But the tornado wasn’t done yet, because it began to get deeper into the city, and started to destroy skyscrapers. The tornado first ripped off the roofs of the skyscrapers, then the windows and interior of the buildings, and the front entrances. The twister had winds of 275 miles per hour, making it an F-5 tornado on the Fujita Scale. Some houses were literally lifted off their own foundations and carried for half a mile or more before the tornado would begin dropping them. And that only caused more damage. Cars and trucks were flung into the air, and got smashed on the ground. Some vehicles were turned into a twisted pile of metal. Steel buildings were turned into a tangled mess, while cinderblock buildings were utterly turned into pebbles and pieces of broken concrete. Now the tornado was on its way to Tommy’s neighborhood, and it was on its way fast! “Oh my gosh!,” shouted Tommy’s dad. “What do you see?”.asked Tommy’s mom. “The tornado’s big! And I think it’s heading for us!”, shouted Tommy’s dad. And you could actually see the tornado heading towards the neighborhood only from two miles away. It’s a good thing the Hilton family was already in the basement, because the other people had hardly any time to be able to get to a safe place. Some people were tuned into the weather station on the TV with the volume all the way up. The weatherman said that there was a tornado emergency on the tornado warning. When you have one of those, the tornado is really big, and powerful, so in the real world, take them seriously, and take immediate action. The twister was traveling at 50 miles per hour, and that’s not enough time to gather supplies, and head down to the basement. Tommy was almost at the point of blacking out of fear and intensity.
“It’s going to be okay Tommy!” shouted Tommy’s mom.
“We’re going to survive, and everything will be fine!” included Tommy’s dad. The tornado was now at this point outside of Tommy’s neighborhood. The tornado lifted houses off their foundations, snapped trees in half, and turned them into flying projectiles. Power lines sent off sparks and dangerous voltage. The poles just got snapped in two like matchsticks.
But the only thing worse that could have happened on what Tommy just saw was that David’s house got lifted of the foundation and got smashed down on the ground. Tommy was about to faint at the point on when he realized David may have died. Never to be seen again, all because of mother nature. Tommy was really freaking out at this point, but now the tornado was heading straight for the Hilton family house. The tornado’s tremendous roar was so loud that everybody’s ears popped… At least that’s what it felt like. The twister was so close that the only thing that could save you now would be God. When the roar of the twister reached the Hilton family, all they could do is huddle together and pray for the best. Still in the basement, they could hear everything that was going on upstairs. The windows shattered, sending shards of glass everywhere. The roof was being torn apart, bit by bit, with no stop. You could hear the walls being torn apart, and furniture being sucked right out of the house. But right as the house was about to be obliterated, the best thing could have happened just did… Tommy woke up. A dream, it was all just a really bad dream. Tommy looked around, feeling hot and covered in sweat. Tommy was in still alive, in his room safe and sound. Breathing hard, but thankful, he was in reality. He ran and looked out the window. Everything was still there. The houses, the trees, and the power lines. Tommy’s house wasn’t obliterated, because the roof was still there, the walls, furniture windows, so nothing was gone.
Nobody was hurt or dead. Tommy went to watch Spongebob, when all of the sudden, the phone rang. It was David, asking if Tommy could be able to come over to his house. More than glad that everything was a dream, but David was still alive. If what happened in the dream happened in real life, nothing that is here now wouldn’t be here today. The dream was so realistic that Tommy couldn’t be able to stop thinking about it. Every time he thought about the dream, it gave him the shivers. Then he started to think about on why that dream happened. Is there a reason, or a sign? But somehow, he couldn’t put his finger on it but something happened when he stepped outside. When he was on his way to the door the feeling was growing bigger. When Tommy stepped outside to go over to David’s house, something made him think he was in deja vu. Something wasn’t normal, something made him feel weird inside Nothing he felt before. Something gave Tommy that eerie warning. It was a hot and sunny day in Oklahoma City…
