Believe In Yourself
This all starts off with a girl named Crystal, who was seventeen years old. She was 4’ 11 and a little overweight. Like every normal person she had insecurities, she had long blonde hair that was just a bit greasy and her teeth weren’t the whitest. The thing about Crystal was that she wasn’t an unattractive girl. Her skin was so extravagant, pale and yet so luscious to the touch. To her she felt that she had a life incapable to live, so unsure of how to be happy when feeling so alone. Never getting the support that every teenager needed when having a dream. She knew one day she’d become a doctor, but everyone doubted her. Crystal grew up in a town where everyone knew everyone and their business. It was tough because she didn’t have any friends, she felt alone. Her school held only 532 people; each class having a small amount of students. Redwood High school, home of the grizzlies; in the town of Low Valley, Missouri. Each day was a challenge but she worked hard every day to pursue her dream. No one was helpful and the people she looked up to the most didn’t even support her. At school she tried so hard to accomplish everything she could. It was hard though because she has dyslexia and she has a tough time with a lot of work. Without having any friends by her side, Crystal emotionally had a difficult time getting through the day. Right when the day starts, I want it to be over. She thought to herself.
One day at school there was a boy that caught her eye. He seemed way out of her league, and she hated knowing that. He was new to the school, his name was Alex. Alex came from New York; he was 6’3 and had dark brown hair, blue eyes and golden brown skin. She drooled when she would look at him. Causing her to have to snap back into reality. It was for the fact that she knew it would just never happen. Crystal would come home every day and look at herself in the mirror; she’d think to herself what’s wrong with me? She never understood why no one ever talked to her. Her parents tried to help her feel better but it was hard for her to take it because they always put her down as well. Senior year of high school was supposed to be the best, but not for Crystal. Days were long and nights felt short with the limited amount of sleep she got.
At school Alex would start to notice Crystal, he thought she was beautiful and she didn’t even know it. Since she always doubted herself she couldn’t even realize it. He would just notice how she was struggling and it began to break his heart. That was when he decided to reach out to her. The next day at school he went up to Crystal and introduced himself. Crystal’s heart was racing, pounding in her chest, she couldn’t believe it was happening. The day she always dreamed of came true. That night that’s all she could think about, she woke the next morning and even had a dream about it. It was all that was ever on her mind, she always thought about Alex. Eventually he would ask her what was wrong and they got to know each other. School became one of Crystal’s favorite places to be. She never liked being at home; school was a place she felt safe-especially because of Alex. Days were brighter for her, less amount of weight on her shoulders. At that moment in her life she felt that everything has just fallen into place. Instantly she knew that didn’t seem right. Then that is when she found out the news. She found out that in two months she was going to be moving away. Then her heart sank, she instantly thought about what her life was going to be like without Alex. Right then she knew she had minimum time to spend with him.
A month has passed and Crystal becomes more depressed than a momma bird losing her babies. No one could replace Alex. They spent every day with each other. He was that one person that believed in her. He gave her the confidence that she needed. Alex believed that Crystal could become a doctor, he always told her, “when I’m gone, the only person who needs to believe in you is yourself.” It was too tough for her to feel that way. She loved the supportive feeling that she has. He would be the missing puzzle piece to her puzzle. She found out that she’d only be 45 miles away from Alex but she doesn’t know how she could handle not seeing him. Right when she thought they were going to be boyfriend and girlfriend. All they can really do is email because Crystal doesn’t have a cell phone.
Only 12 more days left and Crystal is moving. Times are getting crucial, but she’s thankful for everything with Alex. She was nervous for her new school, hoping to have friends. Everything would feel out of place but there was nothing she could do about any of it. They have to move because her mom has to switch locations for her job. Now there’s only five days left until the move, Alex and Crystal are both sad. He reminded her every day that everything was going to be okay and that the future holds much for her.
The day is finally here, the day that Crystal is leaving Alex. She was in tears while saying goodbye. She knew though that soon enough she’d be okay. Everything would go back to how they were before she met Alex. She never wanted to know what that would feel like again. Although she knew she wouldn’t die because of it. Crystal started school the next day in her new town. She didn’t even know the name. She just knew she wanted to get out of there. School begun, she didn’t like the feeling of being the new girl. The thing she was most upset about was switching schools senior year. Days felt painful and she always went home missing Alex.
After a few days of being away, she came to realize, she loved Alex’s support. The thing was though, that really the only person who needs to support her was herself. Crystal just really needed to believe in herself and prove that to everyone she can do whatever she dreamed of. Her parents started to notice how smart she was. Every day she would talk to Alex and tell him how much better she was doing. Soon before she even knew it, she was graduating high school, and got a scholar ship to Harvard University. The school of her dream. She was going to major in medical to become a doctor. Alex was so proud. He decided to surprise her and visit her. They ended up getting a place together, her and Alex both went to school and had jobs. Making it possible for them to live in their apartment together right there in the suburbs. Right then and there, Crystal realized that she had everything she could have ever asked for and was happier than ever. She gives out a word of advice to everyone “Never give up, even when you’re at your breaking point. But there is never a good enough reason to give up for what you really want, because if you want it bad enough there is always a possible way to achieve your goals.” From that day forward, she lived a much happier life than she could have ever imagined existing.
