The Long and Chaotic Weekend of Brian the Trainer
The Long and Chaotic Weekend of Brian the Trainer
It was high school football time in Cleveland, Ohio. Suddenly a loud crash of lightning lit up the sky as it came down upon the trees in the distance. The game stopped abruptly. Both teams scurried off to the locker rooms. Brian; a student trainer soon followed. Brian wasn’t very big, standing at five foot nine. However, he had a husky build. He had dark hair and bluish – green eyes. As he walked rain drops pelted him like rocks. It was just rain, yet every drop felt like it would Peirce his skin.
In the locker room the players stretched to keep warm and listened to music. Brian began to re-tape wrists and refill bottles. The weather delay was the last thing either team wanted. It was the biggest game of the year and a rivalry game; Bayfield Village vs. Bush. Most importantly it was the night before the ACT. The delay was the last thing Brian wanted either. He had been at school since seven in the morning; it was now ten thirty at night. He had filled water, taped players, and tended to injuries. He wiped the crust off his blood shot eyes and sat down on a bench.
After about an hour both teams were back on the field. It was short lived. The referee shook his head frantically and sent the players back inside after another strike of lightning lit up the night sky. The players were anxious to play.
Finally after two hours the game resumed. It was under the lights, many fans had gone home. Bayfield Village had the lead early but with three minutes remaining trailed by three points. Then as all hope seemed lost Dayfield Village scored a touchdown. The remaining crowd jumped up and down cheering with sheer excitement. With one minute remaining Bush had the ball. After a few unsuccessful plays Dayfield Village sealed the win with a clutch interception.
Exhausted, Brian came immediately home and fell fast asleep. It was after one o‘clock in the morning. At five o’clock that morning Brian was suddenly awoken by a thud and something on his chest. He had left his door open. His massive dog had come up and jumped on him. A beautifully, energetic black and tan German Shepherd. Then up for the day with little sleep, Brian got dressed. He had another busy day ahead of him as his brother Andrew had a big football game of his own. Andrew was on offensive lineman for St. Edgar High School. Andrew had a drastically different build than Brian. He was a towering six foot three inches and two hundred and seventy pounds. JC University was going to be the site of the big game. Nationally ranked St. Edgar vs. Melder would meet each other on the football field.
Brian spent time with his family at a tailgate before the game. A giant tent and trailer overlooking the grand stands was the site of the tailgate. Brian was very tired. His state didn’t improve as the game started. It began to rain like the night before. Luckily the rain was short lived, stopping quickly.
Brian walked every angle of the field to snap pictured of the game. The crowd went wild as St. Edgar scored first. It was just the beginning as St. Edgar added many more points. Edgar defeated Melder 42-7. Brian drove home and once again fell asleep, ending his long and chaotic weekend.
