Lemonade
"One lemonade please." Andy asks as he hands the girl his two quarters.
"Thank you mister." the little girl named Julie said.
"You are very welcome, how much money have you made so far today?" he asked.
"Fifteen dollars, well fifteen fifty now that you bought one." she said with a giggle.
"Wow that's some good business, keep up the good work."
"I will, have a good day!" she replied.
Andy walked off with his cup of lemonade and looked down at his watch. He didn't have to be back at the office until 12:30 so he decided to finish his drink at one of the old picnic tables in the park. He remembers sitting at these same tables as a kid, having lunch with his family. They were brand new back then. He sat down at one of the splintery tables that was in the shade of a big oak tree. He took a big drink of the bitter-sweet drink. The day was going by so slow and he was exhausted. It was such a nice day outside and he didn't want to be stuck doing paperwork for four more hours. He wanted to enjoy the sun, maybe go golfing. But sadly there were deadlines to meet and he couldn't be late to work again.
On his way back to the office he drove past a yard with two little boys playing in it. They were running around with squirt guns and having a blast. They ran from the yard into the garage. One of the kids sat down on the cold, smooth cement floor. The feeling was welcoming after playing outside in the hot July sun all day.
"Hey grab me a popsicle." he said to his best friend.
"Okay." his friend said.
He got them both a blue one, because they both know that is the best kind, and sat down next to him. They had already started to melt and the juice was running down his hands.
"Here take yours before I'm completely covered in melted popsicle." he said with a laugh.
They sat there eating as fast as they could trying keep up with the heat of the afternoon.
"Ahh brain freeze!!!" they both yelled at the same time.
After the blinding pain had passed the two best friends started to laugh. They loved long summer day like this. When they did everything but had nothing to do. No schedule. No places to be. All they need is some sunshine, a garden hose, and a trampoline to have the time of their lives. They will miss days like this when they are grown up. When they have schedules to follow and places to be.
Andy woke up with a startle. He was still sitting at the picnic table with half a glass of lemonade in his hand. He looked down at his watch. It was 1:30.
