Leaving
I walk outside. The cold crisp air wakes my tired face. I look around, the bright green grass is covered in sparkling dew and a dark fog looms over the street. Few people walk by, clacks of their shoes hitting the cement as they walk past, their faces expressionless. The orange and brown leaves float to the ground near my feet. I walk forward with the leaves crunching underneath me. The walkway carved through our garden leads me to the front of the yard. I turn and look back. My house stares back at me and my eyes tear up. The last time to look back before I leave my past and begin my future. All my childhood is what I'm leaving. It's too early in the morning for me to say goodbye. College can wait, but for now, I return. My face looks down as I go back. The worms float on the sidewalk after the long rain from last night. I watch them squirm around. My feet splash through the puddles as I walk forward to my home. A rustle comes from the bush besides me, I flinch and watch the bushes dance while the thing inside moves around. I become suspicious and dare to look inside the hedge. The wind picks up and shakes the vegetation around me while I separate the limbs of the bush and find a mother rabbit with three small kits. The whines of the babies make me smile. I leave them alone and return to my house because nothing, not even college, is more important than spending a few minutes with my family.
