The Thief
The Thief
It was a Thursday night; my family went out to dinner to celebrate my sister’s 16th birthday. We went out to enjoy some chicken wings at her favorite restaurant, Buffalo Wild Wings. I love the really spicy wings! My mouth is usually on fire by the end of the meal. Many times I usually have to wipe my brow because I am sweating from the spicy sauce. I just can’t help it though! It is addictive! After we paid our bill, we all got in the car and drove home since it was getting late and we needed to get up early for a basketball game.
Although, it was only a short ride home, my full stomach made me feel sleepy. I was looking forward to jumping in to my bed and wrapping up in my cozy comforter. It always feels so nice to lie down when you are exhausted.
As we pulled into the garage, my younger brother noticed that the back door was open and the lights in the upstairs bedroom were left on. This seemed odd since we had turned off all the lights and shut the door when we left. We quietly and quickly tiptoed into the house. What if someone was still in there? We decided to rush upstairs to the room with the light on. My dad peaked into the room and turned back around like lightning, and yelled, “It’s a thief!” I was freaking out. I was about to charge into the room, but my dad stopped me. We waited in the hallway for a few minutes when the robber appeared suddenly from the room. Luckily, he didn’t see us and we followed him silently down the stairs, watching his every move. He went into the kitchen and took some bread and milk. He hid it in this jacket. We watched him anxiously from behind a couch. The robber then headed to the basement. My dad and I waited for what seemed like an hour, but was only a few minutes. One thing I noticed about the thief was that he only stole food and items that only girls would be interested in. I pushed this thought out of my mind when I heard a loud crash downstairs. I bolted down the stairs, not caring whether I came upon the thief. I just wanted to confront him for causing my family so much stress on this night. When I arrived in the basement, with my dad close on my heels, I was kicking and punching wildly in the air. All of a sudden, I realized nothing was there. After I started walking back towards the entrance door, someone screamed, “Boo!” I literally felt like I jumped out of my skin. I ran around the room madly, screaming like a little girl. Then I heard the roaring laughter of my dad and sister. “We got you! Ha,Ha,Ha!
When they stopped laughing, they clued me in on their ingenious plan to leave the light on and the door open. My sister snuck out of sight to change into dark clothes and put a mask over her face. They had this incredible scheme planned for the last week or so. However, they are not the only schemers in the family. I chuckled and said, “ April Fool’s Day.” My dad and sister looked at each other wondering why I had said this, then AHHHHHHHHHHHH!! ,they screamed so loud it almost blew my eardrums out! I was actually just playing along with their obvious joke. I don’t think they realized that it was evident that I saw my sister go around to the back door and change her clothes. No one could ever top my joke. All I said was, “ Better luck next year.”
