The Last Breath
The room was dark and silent.
The air was damp and heavy.
The bed was hard and jagged.
The clock read two A.M.
The child knew what was coming,
And he trembled at the thought.
His time was almost up,
The man seemed somewhat eager.
The night was cold and clammy.
The boy was there for weeks.
He should have stayed away,
Not helped the frightening man.
The man slithered through the door.
The grin on his face spread wide.
The child wept silently,
His tears were running dry.
“Don’t be afraid my boy,
It will only hurt a bit”
The knife came down rather smoothly,
The boy took his last breath.
