Loss
Her eyelashes hugged her cheeks, leaving wet splotches. An eyelash was left sitting alone on her cheek. The rest of the eyelashes bent over, reaching for their lost companion. The loss had crushed the entire family. The rain had left tears dripping from the injured gutter. The storm last night had left devastation everywhere. It had poured from the sky and left those remaining to put the pieces together. The mother had let her eyes run dry. She now began her solemn duty of making tea and going around to attempt to console the family. A mug dove to the ground and shattered. It took her a moment to realize what had occured. The mess was too much for her and she dragged herself up the stairs and back to bed. The rest of the household had heard the dull clatter and break, but could not bring themselves to rise. The lukewarm tea soaked into the wooden floors, leaving swollen patches. The floor would remain deformed. The memory would never truly leave it.
