Snow
I woke up from a good night's sleep to see skiers all throughout the slopes carving through the snow. Powder flying all over the place and I was already prepared and ready for what was going to happen later on in the day. By the time the rest of my family woke up. I already had my ski boots on and was ready. When I got outside to the snow I was so excited and ready for the day ahead of me, as I got on the ski lift to take me up the mountain that looked like it would never stop getting taller. But by the time I got up, I decided I wanted to go to the trick park. This is one of my most favorite things to do because getting to see what all the people do on tv and then being able to do it yourself is really cool. As I got over to the park I started to go down and hit the rails and jumps. Jump, land, repeat, is basically what I did for the next hour or two. But what I had my eyes set on today was going down the black diamond hill, just by looking at it you can hear the scraping of ski's going through the fresh powder. One problem though, I am TERRIFIED of heights, like anything over a green hill I might not consider doing, but I was confident and thought today was the day and would conquer that fear. So I took the ski lift to the top of the mountain and glided over to the Black Diamond. Looking down to the bottom it feels like I'm at the top of the world from here, the air is nice and crisp but also very cold. But I'm still feeling a little cautious about doing this, but I knew if I got down this (without dying of course). I could feel so much better about doing bigger slopes. So, I told myself I'd do it. I look down one more time before I go down, as I start to see myself going down, silence….. Then, in the blink of an eye, I see myself thrown into the hill. Turning left and right, making sure my movements are precise and accurate. Crashing through the snow, I feel myself gaining speed, really nervous. Trying to center myself and focus on my turns. Having to make the perfect turn to make sure I don't go flying off the hill into my death. I was going so fast my vision was getting foggy. But as the ground got flatter and flatter, I realized I had done it. I really just did that huge slope. I went in for the day feeling happy and glad I got it over with. This moment taught me a lot and not just that you can do anything with the right mindset. But that facing your fears is a big step in life. So now I know that the next time I see a slope like this, I'll know that I have the skill to do it.
