pumpkin pie
He stood at the edge of the counter and stood on his tippy toes to try and see. He couldn’t wait until she finished. She ignored him and continued to work on it. He tapped his foot, impatient.
How long does it take? He said.
I don’t know, I really don’t. She said.
It seems very complicated.
It is.
Do you need any help?
No.
Okay then. Is it supposed to look like that?
Yes.
Huh. It looks funny.
I guess.
She turned her back to him, hoping he got the hint. He didn’t. He ran to the other side of her and jumped up and down, trying to get a glimpse of it. She sighed and put her hands on her hips. She signaled at him to stay there and left. She returned only a few moments later with a stool and set it on the ground so he could see. He grinned and jumped up on it, and she went back to work.
