Wish You Were Here
The sun glistened off the deep blue waters of the ocean. Waves crashed on rocks along the shore. Shells and rocks were on the beach as far as the eye could see. The sand was a pure white that felt like flour with each step. At the edge of the sand where the water began, there was a coral reef that surrounded the whole island. This reef was made of a multitude of colors so bright it made the island glow. There was a variety of fish breezing through the coral reef that were all sorts of different shapes and colors. The fish were all swimming together and every so often they would jump as if they were forming a pattern. There were palm trees everywhere in the grass which separated the outer part of the island from the mainland. The palm trees stood tall and all looked like they had been arranged by hand with coconuts and their bark painted.
Off in the distance there seemed to be a shipwreck that was still above the water and hadn't sunk yet. The wrecked ship was made of a fine dark stained wood with a golden figurehead, made to look like a mermaid. Next to the wreck, there was a boat with a crew of two men and two women. The men seemed to have a charred tan and looked older but still had greasy black hair. The women looked almost the same age but were a pale white with long, glossy blonde hair. The group of people seemed to be preparing to go diving in the shipwreck.
In the far distance, beyond the wreck and the divers, there was another island with sand the color of ash and mountains the size of skyscrapers. There were very few trees, but the ones there appeared to have almost no leaves or leaves that had been burnt. There was one main thing that was visible on the island, a volcano soaring above the clouds. This volcano had streams full of rocks and gravel pouring down. It looked as if it wasn’t an active volcano since there was no charcoal colored smoke coming out the top, but the volcano was still a sight to see.

I decided to write this essay about an island because that would be one of my favorite places to live. I would like to live on a warm beach by an ocean. Working with a group member was helpful to come up with extra details or parts to describe about the island.
While writing this essay it made me realize how many things there are in nature. I noticed all the animals and all the different plants growing.
