A trip that will Never be Forgotten
It was the first full week of school and a couple of friends wanted to find something fun to do. John and Jordan decided that they were going to the river in Arkansas to fish. They tried to find a third person all week but no one wanted to go. They had planned this trip all week long and could not wait until it was Saturday. They were going to a place that is eleven miles past Felsenthal Arkansas. The lake they were going to be on was off the river a couple miles and was called Moss Lake.
John got to school Friday and said to Jordan, “we better go to my house after school and make sure everything is going to work on the boat”.
Jordan agreed and said, “It will need to be after football because we have to watch film today”.
After football, Jordan went over to Johns. They planned on taking 2 trucks. They would us Jordan’s for pulling the boat and John’s for pulling the 4- wheeler. They needed the 4- wheeler to pull the boat to the lake once they got to the river. They finally decided instead of pulling two trucks, they would load the 4- wheeler in the back of Jordan’s truck. Putting the 4-wheeler in the back of the truck was tricky because when you put the ramps up it is really steep.
They got it loaded and got the boat hooked up and headed to Arcadia. When they got to Arcadia they had to go to Minden to get John’s fishing pole from his mom’s house. His mom told them to be sure not to take any naps on the river or it wouldn’t end well. They talked to his mom for a little longer and when they started to leave she said again, “be sure not to fall asleep on the river.” They got back to the house around 11 PM and went to sleep because they were leaving at four the next morning.
The alarm went off at 3:30 and their morning started. Jordan got John up and they got dressed. They had to unplug the boat from its charger and make sure they had everything they needed. They got in the truck around four on that warm Saturday morning and were excited and ready to catch some fish. They had about a 2 hour drive to get to Felthensawl. They stopped when they got to Ruston and was planning on getting some breakfast, but the store where they stopped at didn’t have any breakfast ready, so they just got something to drink. They got on the road again and decided to stop in Farmerville to see if there was any breakfast ready. This store had breakfast so they both got something to eat and started on their way again. From Farmerville they had about another hour drive to get there. John and Jordan talked to each other the whole way there. They were discussing what baits they thought would work and which direction they should go on the river.
When they got to the parking lot, they unhooked the boat and unloaded the 4-wheeler off the back of the truck. Then they hooked the boat to the 4-wheeler. It was about a 30 minute ride on four wheelers to the river. The dirt road took them to a muddy boat ramp so they didn’t have to ride down the river so far. The road to the river was really, really muddy. They almost got stuck a few times because Jordan‘s four wheeler was small and weak. They finally made it to the river and it was the best sight they had ever seen. They just knew they were about to catch a bunch of fish. They backed the boat off the trailer and into the water.
When Jordan was waiting on John to park the trailer, he was sitting there looking at all the beautiful cypress trees. He had never seen trees so big around. There were some as big around as a truck and even bigger.
John got to the boat and off they went fishing. Riding down the river was amazing getting to see all kinds of new stuff. It was a challenge maneuvering around all the stumps and trees down across the creek. They finally got to where they wanted to fish. They caught around 30 bass and decided to pull to the bank to eat lunch. The 30 bass they had caught were beautiful fish. River bass are so much different then lake or pond bass. They have such a different life living in that water with a current that never stops moving. As they were eating lunch they decided to take a nap. Before they knew it, they both were asleep. When John woke up and looked up, they had floated off the bank and down the river. John woke Jordan up and neither one of us knew where they were. They were off the main river and were floating down a little bayou now. They didn’t know what to do or what direction to drive. They had zero phone service to check the map so we went in panic mode. Jordan says, “This is going to be like that book we read last school year about the house boat floating down the river when it flooded.” They finally decided they would have to drive one way and hope it brought them back to the main river. The river looked like a long dark road that never ended. As they were going up the river, they saw that the water had dropped on the trees so they got worried about the levy. They went about a mile up and the water had dropped so much that there was a levy in the middle of the river. The only way around it was to go over it. They ramped over the levy. By this time it was starting to get dark so they decided it was best to stop for the night. They pulled up to the bank and decided to cook some fish they had caught earlier that day. They built a fire and started cooking them. After they ate, they both sat there and talked to each other. There was no way they were going to sleep again. When daylight came up, they decided to keep on going and try to find the main river. One good thing about being on the river at daylight again was the sun rise. It was the prettiest thing ever. It filled the sky with a bright orange color and almost made the bad situation they were in so much better. They finally made it to the river and started heading up towards the 4- wheeler. When they finally made it back to the 4- wheeler, it was almost dark again. They had been riding the river all day. They got loaded up and headed for Arcadia. Let’s just say, next time they won’t be taking any naps on the river. When they got back to Arcadia it was around 11 PM. They were so tired that they didn’t even take everything out of the truck. They got straight in the bed and worried about it the next morning. They woke up the next day around 11 AM.
John rolled over and said to Jordan, “you ready to go back to the river and fish some more.”
Jordan said, “We need a break from that river. I’m not doing anything all day.”
They got out of bed around 12 pm and went and unloaded all the stuff from truck and cleaned the rest of the bass. After this they went and got back in bed and slept more. The river had worn them out.
