“Look,” she said excitedly, grabbing my hand and pointing to the stars. “Do you see it there?”
I peered through the straining canopy of black dotted with glimmering shards of innate phenomena, wondering exactly what I was looking for, and if she really was insane after all.
Giving up, I sighed exasperatedly and shook my head. “What am I supposed to be even looking for?”
She laughed, almost as if it was the most obvious thing in the entire world, and I felt the cold within me lessen, just in the slightest.
“Right there, see? They’re not gone at all, they’re smiling at us from the stars.”
