She laid face-up on the ground, with no memory of collapsing. She didn’t know why. No matter how hard she tried to sit up straight, a force grabbed her by the neck and shoved her back down. She didn’t know why. Tears were threatening to spill from her eyes, but for some reason she couldn’t seem to let them out. She didn’t know why. Surrounding her were four large, white walls that gave the illusion of a spacious room, but she felt like she was suffocating. She didn’t know why. The room was dead silent, except for a voice that sounded eerily similar to hers. The voice was spewing horrible words and phrases at her that she couldn’t help but take to heart. She didn’t know why. She yelled at herself to get up, to wake up, to do something to snap out of this trance. Nothing worked, nothing would ever work.

She was trapped.

She didn’t know why.

The author's comments:

I tried to incorporate repetition into this set piece by repeating a phrase throughout the writing. I also attempted to create a sort of symbolic or metaphorical type of writing. However, instead of expecting single sentence metaphors to be spread out in this piece, the whole entire writing is just one huge symbol or metaphor. It represents feeling a very intense version of sadness and helplessness with seemingly no way to escape those emotions. So the things that are happening in this set piece aren’t actually happening; they’re all inside of the character’s head.
