He stood in the middle of the circle, glaring, ready to charge. Through the crowd, shouts of onlookers stimulated his every nerve. Then he was being thrown from the ring, as if a ragged piece of cloth, among the booing crowd. Now he would never feel the strength and the cheers again.

--- use of verbs:

1. ‘Glaring’, shows how he was ready and attended to fight, wanted to win desperately.

2. ‘Thrown’, shows how he was weak, or at least a lot weaker than his competitor.

--- use of simile: ‘as if a ragged piece of cloth,’ indicates how weak and powerless he was, how he was old and lifeless, like a cloth.

---contradiction of attitude of crowed. Turned from excited, enthusiastic ‘shouts’ to ‘booing’, shows that he’s not in a good condition.
