Ithaca MAG
Ithaca, NY: I arrived at Ithaca College on November 14 after a seven hour drive from Boston. The campus is beautiful, high on a hill overlooking the quaint town of Ithaca and the Finger Lakes.
I was greeted by a friendly student who showed me and one other girl around the Communications Center. Since I plan to apply to the School of Communications, this building was where my main interests lay. The facilities were quite impressive, with two student-run radio stations, two television stations, as well as many small editing rooms. And everything is only two years old. We peeked into many of these rooms, all of which were being used by students working on individual projects. The students seemed very enthusiastic to talk to us about what they were working on. The communications tour took an hour, which was impressive for just one department.
Unfortunately, since I took this tour, I missed the last campus tour, but I did walk around on my own. The student body of 6,000 seemed to be quite diverse. I saw all kinds of styles and personalities. The campus is compact and intimate, and was buzzing with people. I did not see any dorms, which was a disappointment, but I'm planning another trip and perhaps an overnight to get a better feel for student life at Ithaca College. n
