Real Communication
what happened to eye contact when you speak
let alone speaking at all
not the speaking presented in empty words on a lifeless device
but the speech that embodies heart and soul
not just your heart
and i don't mean the one that beats as you spell out words
unable to be heard and understood in their beauty
the power of words is obsolete
from lol to gtg, i gtg back 10 years when
my friend and i would see each other without interruptions of a ding or a buzz
a new message oh who could it be
i'll be right back i guess i forgot
the virtue of patience
the value of quality time
but as i check that lifeless device what stops my friend from joining in this revolution
you see
the mouth used to be used to convey thoughts, feelings, words,
yet the words we speak today are not a product of our thought but a product of our so too lifeless lips
the same tools which advanced civilization with the innovation of language
yet what language do we speak today
in the 21st century
and what happened to speech in the first place?
