You did not let them.
You always liked the
color of the sunset.
You thought it reflected wonderfully
the calming of your heart,
said it was fitting that it eventually faded to darkness.
You did not know what that meant.
You used to joke that
nobody would miss you
when you're gone.
They did not understand
why you said that so frequently,
why your palms got sweaty
and your skin a shade lighter
each time they mentioned
your sadness.
They did not see your heart
setting
like the sun,
fading to black,
because you
did not
show them.
