Apology from Booth to Lincoln

June 28, 2010

Im sorry that
You had to die
for the sake
of your country.

You were the target
of the assassination
and the assassin
assassinated
you.

And since there's
no such thing
As a free gift
You were the one
Who paid for it.

The author's comments:
This was an English project for seventh grade, to write a poem from another person's point of view, so I chose the point of view of Tom Wilkes Booth, the man who assassinated president Lincoln.
