2022 Traditions Contest: When The Curtain Falls
Here’s to the days that have turned into nights
And the friends that have turned into family
As estranged from my family as I was
I’d found a surrogate family
In these people I spent hours upon hours with
Our twelve hour rehearsals
Loudly chanting show tunes at one a.m.
Just to keep ourselves awake
Praying before our shows
That no one would fall off the set
That maybe my parents would decide to show up
But, when the curtain falls
The blood of the covenant
Is thicker than the water of the womb
